In 1904 in a small town in New Zealand, three men began making tough woollen garments. Originally from England, John Lane, Pringle Walker and Alfred Rudkin, who were now proud Kiwis, had such a love for their adopted homeland that they named their company after the area in which they settled – Canterbury. It fast became a national institution, a byword for Kiwi qualities of trustworthiness, resilience and hard work, supplying kit to the Australian and New Zealand army and eventually to the other great New Zealand institution – the All Blacks rugby team - an association that would last for decades.
